Brussels (dpa) - Daimler Trucks and Volvo are allowed to team up for a joint development of fuel cell systems.

The EU competition authorities have approved a corresponding project, as announced on Monday.

It was concluded that the project “raises no competition concerns”.

In April last year it was announced that the two heavyweights in the industry wanted to join forces in a joint venture.

The focus of the cooperation is the development of heavy fuel cell trucks for long-distance transport, which should go into series production in the second half of the decade.

Since then, Daimler Trucks has bundled fuel cell activities in a new subsidiary.

Volvo is to take over half of it for around 600 million euros.
