Berlin (dpa) - Alba Berlin does not want to let the surprise team end the winning streak in the basketball Bundesliga.

Nine successes in a row, most recently the 83:65 against the Niners Chemnitz, and now it's time for the Crailsheim Merlins this Tuesday (8:30 p.m. / MagentaSport).

The Merlins celebrated 14 wins in their previous 16 Bundesliga games.

The Berliners have 13 wins in 14 games.

It will also be a game for second place in the table.

"Crailsheim already played a crazy season last year and is doing it again this year," said Alba professional Jonas Mattisseck: "We can expect a difficult game."

Remarkable, because coach Tuomas Iisalo had to rebuild his Crailsheim team almost completely before this season.

Alba's defense must focus on point guard and key player Trae Bell-Haynes.

With an average of 19.9 points and 8.1 assists per game, the 25-year-old is a candidate for the most valuable player in the league.

"He's playing an amazingly good season and it's going to be very difficult to stop him," said Mattisseck.

Alba players and coaches rated the victory against Chemnitz just two days after the Euroleague defeat as beneficial.

“It is important that we managed to put an exclamation mark not even 48 hours after the lost game against Bayern and come together again as a team,” said Mattisseck.

He and youngster Malte Delow, who achieved a new career record with 10 points, also managed to compensate for the absence of Jayson Granger and Peyton Siva in the team of coach Aito Garcia Reneses.
