Hanover (dpa) - In the bitter winter cold, aid organizations are increasing their efforts for the homeless.

In Hanover, the "cold bus" of the Johanniter was on the road again on Monday evening to provide the needy with hot food and drink.

In addition, clothes, blankets, sleeping bags, backpacks and masks would be distributed, said a spokeswoman.

On Monday there was pasta with Bolognese to eat, cooked and distributed by volunteers.

Typically 100 to 110 servings would be served in one evening.

In severe frost, however, many of the homeless went to their sleeping place early in the day to wrap up for the night, said spokeswoman Sylke Heun.

You would then no longer have access to the mobile help offers.

In Hanover, around 400 people are constantly "on record".

A further 3,000 to 4,000 people have a roof over their heads, but as former homeless people are still dependent on help.

Organizations like the Johanniter, the Malteser, Caritas or the homeless aid worked closely together in the emergency and took turns in the operations, said Heun.
