Munich (dpa / lby) - In parts of Bavaria there should be heavy snowfall on Monday night.

The German Weather Service (DWD) warned on Sunday of up to 25 centimeters of fresh snow in areas within twelve hours, especially in northern Bavaria.

Otherwise 10 to 15 centimeters of snow are possible.

South of the Danube, the DWD expects up to five centimeters of fresh snow, at higher altitudes and in the Alps above 800 meters locally with up to 10 centimeters.

During the course of Monday, the snowfall should then subside.

In the new week, it should be significantly cooler in most parts of Bavaria.

A cold wave was rolling towards Germany, it was said.

In Upper Franconia, temperatures as low as minus 9 degrees are possible at the beginning of the week.
