This week, the Västmanland region has decided to introduce new flag days.

This is to draw the attention of national minorities and LGBTQ people.

In addition to the national flag days, Region Västmanland will flag the Sami, Swedish-Finnish and Roma flags as well as the Meänflaku (Tornedal flag) on each minority's flag day, and draw the attention of the Jewish minority on the memorial day for Holocaust victims.

In addition, the region will hoist the rainbow flag in connection with major LGBTQ events in the county.

- Flagging in connection with these days and events, is a way to draw attention to and contribute to a greater understanding of human rights, the importance of diversity, and the equal value of all people. This is in line with Region Västmanland's values, says the regional board's chairman Denise Norström (S) in a press release.
