Hamburg (dpa / lno) - A man was killed in an apartment fire in Hamburg-Neuenfelde.

For an unexplained cause, an apartment on the first floor of an apartment building caught fire late on Saturday evening, as the police announced on Sunday.

The 70-year-old resident could only be rescued dead by the rescue workers.

According to the police, there was no evidence of outside interference.

Several residents in the neighboring apartments were trapped because of the smoke from the fire - some of them were rescued by the fire department using portable ladders.

You were unharmed.

For one of the residents, the fire service will still have consequences.

During the evacuation of the house, officials found a marijuana plantation with almost 30 seedlings in his apartment.

The tenant, who was not at home at the time of the fire, is now being investigated on suspicion of violating the Narcotics Act.
