The work of the 34th regular summit of leaders of the African Union countries started this Saturday morning, by default, with the aim of discussing the challenges of political reform and confronting the Corona pandemic.

The agenda of the two-day summit is divided into an open session that includes the words of the leaders of the union, and the handing over of its presidency to Felix Cheskede, President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, to succeed his current counterpart Cyril Ramaphosa, President of South Africa.

During the summit, closed sessions will be held to discuss chronic border conflicts, institutional reform of the Union, and dealing with the Corona pandemic on the continent.

According to previous data of the Union, the current session will witness electronic voting for the elections of candidates for the African Union Commission for the next 4 years.

Elections are held for the main positions of the African Union, the Chairperson and Vice-Chair of the Commission, and the positions of 6 Commissioners of the Union.

25 candidates are competing for 6 major positions in the union, and all 55 member states of the union are entitled to vote in these elections.
