Pokljuka (dpa) - Ex-world champion Denise Herrmann doesn't let herself be stressed by her mixed shooting performance this season shortly before the Biathlon World Cup.

“You basically don't forget that and you have to trust what you can actually do,” said the 32-year-old before the peak of winter, which begins on Wednesday in Pokljuka, Slovenia.

In preparation, after the last World Cup in Antholz at the end of January, she “didn't touch her weapon at all” for a week before she went to the last training camp in Austria.

"Such a small reset and formatting the hard drive is sometimes quite good," said Herrmann of the German press agency.

The Saxon wanted to fight for victory in the overall World Cup this season, but is far behind in twelfth place.

However, it was not a mistake to formulate this claim so clearly.

"If you were third in the overall World Cup, the goal has to be to confirm that or to be better," said the ex-cross-country skier.

So far, however, "a few too many mistakes have happened to her," said Herrmann, and now hopes before the World Cup, "that the time I've just given myself is enough to make me mentally fresh again."

Herrmann has fond memories of Pokljuka: in the previous year she won the individual there without shooting errors and also celebrated her World Cup premiere with the ski hunters in Slovenia in December 2016.

At the start of the world championship on Wednesday (3 p.m. / ARD and Eurosport), the mixed relay is on the program, followed by the first individual race for the women in the 7.5 kilometer sprint on Saturday.
