February 7, 2021George Shultz, former Secretary of State to Republican President Ronald Reagan, and a great architect of American diplomacy at the end of the Cold War, has passed away at the age of 100, the Hoover Institute announced.

"One of the greatest strategists of all time having worked under three American presidents, George P. Shultz died on February 6," said the think tank connected to Stanford University, California.

His years at the State Department, from July 1982 to January 1989, were spent above all in pursuit of dialogue with the Soviet Union, becoming one of the architects of the thaw. Among his most revealing challenges is the attempt to achieve a stable and lasting peace in the Middle East. Shultz died in his residence on the Stanford University campus.

In his career he had previously been Minister of Labor (January 1969-July 1970), Head of the Budget (July 1970-June 1972) and Secretary of the Treasury (June 1972-May 1974) with President Nixon.
