Former US Ambassador to Korea Harry Harris said he was "amazed about racism" when he was attacked by a personal attack during the conflict between Korea and Japan.

Former Ambassador Harris said in an interview with the British Daily Financial Times at the embassy's residence last month before retiring, saying, "I didn't expect to face such distress due to historical issues between Korea and Japan."

The Financial Times reported an interview with former Ambassador Harris on the 5th local time.

Previously, whenever the former Ambassador Harris strongly spoke for the US position, such as demanding a large increase in defense expenses, the so-called mustache controversy arose.

Some have questioned the birth of former Ambassador Harris, who was born to a US military father in Japan and a Japanese mother, and some argued that the mustache resembles governors during the Japanese colonial period.

Former Ambassador Harris told foreign reporters in January last year that "I am being criticized in the media, especially social media, for my ethnic background, especially for my Japanese-American background."

Former Ambassador Harris said of the three summits, "I used to read science fiction novels when I was younger, but I couldn't imagine such a situation."

Former Ambassador Harris also added, "It was very exciting to create a summit from nothing.
