In connection with the storming of the Capitol in early January, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg decided to suspend then-US President Donald Trump "indefinitely".

Facebook has for several years been criticized for how they chose to handle the platform's moderation.

Therefore, Mark Zuckerberg appointed an independent external council, called the Supervisory Board, which will make decisions on complex moderation issues, and where users can turn to appeal Facebook's decisions.

Their next mission: Decide whether President Trump's ban will be permanent.

"I can say what I want about Facebook"

The Supervisory Board consists of 20 people;

a Nobel laureate and a long line of professors.

And Denmark's former Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt.

- I have nothing to do with Facebook, I do not get paid by Facebook, I can say what I want about Facebook.

None of us in the council would have said yes if it had not been for an independent body, says Helle Thorning-Schmidt to SVT Nyheter.

She thinks that the Supervisory Board is a step in the right direction.

- Facebook has now for the first time realized that it is not they who will decide which content to publish.

Facebook shut down Trump indefinitely and now they have asked us if it is a correct decision, and they have promised to follow our decision, says Helle Thorning-Schmidt.

But why should a Danish Social Democratic politician be allowed to decide on Donald Trump's future on social media?
