Mainz (dpa / lrs) - In Rhineland-Palatinate, 289 new infections with the corona virus were registered within one day.

Overall, the number of proven cases since the outbreak of the pandemic rose to 95,703, as the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry of Health announced on Sunday in Mainz (as of 11.14 a.m.).

Five other people died with or from Covid-19 - this increased the number of deaths related to the disease to 2730. The number of new infections within the past seven days per 100,000 inhabitants was 60.9 nationwide.

The incidence was highest in the Rhein-Hunsrück district and in the city of Worms (100.5) at 102.8.

The lowest with 14.6 in Zweibrücken.

Overall, the incidence in 14 of the 36 districts and cities was below the threshold of 50. However, because of the weekend, not all health authorities report their figures.

On Saturday (as of 2:19 p.m.), 176 people were being treated for Covid-19 in the intensive care units in Rhineland-Palatinate, 80 of whom were ventilated.

Of the 1179 operable intensive care beds in the country's hospitals, 292 were free - almost one in four.

When it comes to vaccinations, Rhineland-Palatinate is still at the forefront.

According to the Robert Koch Institute, 3.6 percent of people were vaccinated up to and including Friday.

The national average was 2.7 percent.
