Dresden (dpa / sn) - The police have registered thousands of violations of the applicable rules during controls in Saxony since the beginning of the corona pandemic.

According to the Ministry of the Interior, there were more than 9,200 records on December 30, 2020, a quarter of which were criminal offenses and the rest were administrative offenses.

The population has increased steadily since April, but a noticeable increase of over 2000 cases at the end of the year - from 6925 to 9207 in four weeks.

In the first pandemic month of March 2020, only just under 1100 missteps were on record - four weeks later, five times as many had been reported.

In January 2021, the number of cases increased significantly - from 9,921 on January 6th to 11,222 on January 20th.

Most often it was about forgotten or refused masks.

Too little distance or exceeding the permitted number of people at gatherings or private celebrations, such as New Year's Eve, were also common.

The rush to the winter sports areas and the associated disregard of the 15 kilometer rule for activities in December is also reflected in the query.

The status is queried on key dates and is always a snapshot, as a ministry spokesman explained.

"There are no overall statistics for violations in Saxony in 2020 or for individual months."

Especially since the municipal authorities punish violations through their public order offices.

The police also pass on the processes they have recorded to them for processing.

After a corresponding examination, criminal offenses could then be “rededicated”, the ministry spokesman said.

In addition, there are warnings issued on site that are not recorded in the statistics.

One of the most blatant incidents was a party in mid-January in a Dresden clubhouse.

In the middle of the strict lockdown, the organizers had called via social media, guests from other districts also came.

Most of them neither wore a mask nor kept their distance.

When the riot police ended the celebration with around 60 participants around midnight, the officers were attacked and one of them was injured.
