Ivorian television announced, Friday, February 5, the death at the age of 82 of Laurent Dona-Fologo, a great figure in Ivorian politics who was minister under the presidency of Félix Houphouët-Boigny, then of Henri Konan Bédié.

"We learn of the death of the former minister, statesman, great servant of the nation, Laurent Dona-Fologo, this Friday, February 5," said television in its last evening newspaper.

A journalist by training, "LDF" was also the first editor-in-chief of the pro-government Ivorian newspaper, Fraternité-matin, created in 1964, before being appointed Minister of Information.

After having been minister without interruption for more than a decade in the government of the first president of the country, he was for four years Minister of State to Henri Konan Bédié (1993-1999), successor of Félix Houphouët-Boigny.

Laurent Dona-Fologo, married to a Frenchwoman, was also general secretary of the Democratic Party (PDCI, former single party) for ten years.

Under the presidency of Laurent Gbagbo (2000-2011), Laurent Dona Fologo was appointed head of the Economic and Social Council, thus becoming the third person in the state.

He had retired from political life since 2011.
