Iraq apologized for accepting an Iranian offer to rehabilitate and maintain an archaeological building called "Kusra Square" (southeast of the capital, Baghdad).

And the Iranian Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Ali Asghar Munsan offered in early January to Iraq to rehabilitate the building by Iranian archaeologists.

On Friday, the head of the Iraqi Antiquities and Heritage General Authority, Laith Hussein, informed the Iranian ambassador to his country that he had apologized for accepting the offer, according to a statement issued by the Iraqi Ministry of Culture.

Hussein explained to the Iranian ambassador, Iraj Masjedi - during a meeting with him - that the International Coalition for the Protection of Antiquities in Conflict Areas will undertake the process of rehabilitating and maintaining the Kisra Road.

Hussein indicated that the International Alliance for the Protection of Heritage in Conflict Zones has provided an urgent initial grant of $ 700,000 to work on maintaining the Iwan (Kisra Bridge) according to high-quality technical methods and modern and international standards.

He added that this month (February) the international coalition will send international experts to start the maintenance process.

The Iwan of Al-Mada'in, or what is known as the Card of Kesra, is the remains of one of the palaces of Khosrau Anushriwan, and dates back to the era of the Sasanian Empire, and is located on the site of the city of Ctesiphon in the administrative district of Al-Madaen in Baghdad Governorate.

The Iwan of Al-Mada'in was built during the reign of Khosrau I, known as Anushriwan, after the military campaign against the Byzantines in 540, and the Muslims took control of the building in 637.
