On February 6, local time, there was a sudden torrential rain in the Bukavu area of South Kivu in the Congo (DRC). A 500-meter-long section of the Bukavu section of Road N2 was silted up, causing 5 vehicles to be trapped and traffic interrupted.

After receiving the rescue notice from the civilian department of the mission area, our peacekeeping engineer team immediately dispatched personnel and equipment to the scene to carry out the rescue.

After the rescue officers and soldiers arrived at the scene, Xie Shaopu, deputy commander of the engineering unit, immediately organized personnel to conduct surveys and study and formulate rescue plans.

As the roads in the area where the incident occurred were completely covered by silt, the roads were slippery and muddy and difficult to navigate. Five public vehicles were stuck in the mud and could not escape, and dozens of vehicles were blocked.

In order to clear the passage as soon as possible, rescue officers and soldiers drove a bulldozer to clear the road silt in sections while clearing the traffic, and used the bulldozer winch device to drag and rescue trapped vehicles in batches to help the vehicles escape.

After more than three hours of intense rescue, 5 trapped vehicles were safely towed out, the road silt was cleared, and the N2 road resumed traffic.

The scientific and efficient rescue by the officers and soldiers of our peacekeeping engineering unit has been highly praised by the masses in the past.
