Munich (dpa / lby) - The first delivery of the corona vaccine from the British-Swedish manufacturer Astrazeneca has arrived in Bavaria.

"The first batch contains 52,800 vaccine doses," said Bavaria's Minister of Health Klaus Holetschek (CSU) on Saturday evening, according to a statement.

The vaccine should now be delivered to the vaccination centers in the Free State, except for a small safety reserve.

"He should be vaccinated as soon as possible."

After the preparations from Biontech / Pfizer and Moderna, the Astrazeneca vaccine is the third one that is available in Germany.

The Standing Vaccination Commission has only recommended the vaccine for people under 65 years of age.

In which groups the vaccine is actually used, depends on the new federal vaccination ordinance, which should not come until the beginning of the week, according to Holetschek.

Provided that Astrazeneca's pledges for further deliveries remain, a total of around 270,000 vaccine doses from the manufacturer are expected in February, as the announcement continues.
