The New York Times uncovered a cyber espionage network launched by Abu Dhabi from former US National Security Agency analysts.

The American newspaper quoted a former member of the network as saying, "We were misled by double financial offers under the cover of working for an allied government of Washington."

A former network member told the New York Times that Abu Dhabi had run cyber espionage activities against Qatar to prove terrorism financing allegations.

"We withdrew after the arrival of the piracy to reveal correspondence between Michelle Obama and Sheikha Moza," he added.

According to the newspaper, the electronic espionage operation directed by Abu Dhabi targeted members of the Qatari ruling family.

She said that the espionage operation also targeted FIFA officials and critics of the UAE regime on Twitter.

A former member of the network stated that they were tasked with working to prove allegations that Qatar was funding the Muslim Brotherhood.
