Chemnitz (dpa) - The Dutchman Gerrit Beltman has requested the termination of his coaching contract in the course of the affair in Chemnitz gymnastics.

Corresponding reports from the gymmedia.de, the “Sächsische Zeitung” and the “Freie Presse” were confirmed by club president Frank Munzer of the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” (Saturday).

"We complied with this request, knowing full well that this step will make the current precarious coaching situation even worse, according to the legally unjustifiable release of our coach Gabriele Frehse!", Says a message from TuS 1861 Chemnitz-Altendorf.

The 64-year-old Beltman has been part of the Chemnitz coaching staff for the second time since August 2020, after having worked for the Saxons between 2014 and 2016.

After reports about Frehse, who was accused of psychological violence by 14 female athletes, Beltman's misconduct in the past was also brought up again.

He had been accused of being beaten and humiliated by gymnasts in his home country, whom he had coached as national coach until 2010.

Beltman had admitted this.

Club President Munzer asked the German Gymnastics Federation (DTB) to quickly find a replacement for the vacant coaching positions.

"Delegating national coaches to Chemnitz temporarily and occasionally is not an adequate substitute for ensuring that the recognized high-quality training process at our Chemnitz performance base in the Olympic arena can continue!" Wrote Munzer.
