Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - Despite the hesitant use of the planned uniform Corona software in all health authorities, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia is relying on nationwide use soon.

In a very short time, the number of health authorities using the new software for contact tracking or preparing for its future use has risen from six to 35.

"That is a good signal," said Minister of Economic Affairs Andreas Pinkwart (FDP) on Friday when asked by the dpa.

We are currently in close contact with the other 18 health authorities.

The federal and state governments had decided to introduce the new software across Germany in all health authorities by the end of February.

"Sormas" - developed by the Helmholtz Center for Infection Research - is intended to facilitate the exchange between the authorities in the fight against the pandemic.

The German Foundation for Patient Protection demanded an immediate "Sormas" installation - by order in all federal states.

Communication between the offices is an "Achilles heel".

Pinkwart said: "It is important to us to enable people to have a largely normal and social life again as soon as possible."

It is hoped that there will be a “broad consensus in terms of content for prompt, area-wide installation” of the uniform software.

Should this not be installed in all 53 health offices in North Rhine-Westphalia by the end of February, the state government reserves the right to issue an order.

In a letter to Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU), the German District Assembly criticized that nationwide introduction of the new IT system was “neither desirable nor currently achievable”.

In the letter from the end of January, the municipal umbrella association, which represents almost 300 districts nationwide, had spoken of only around 80 health offices that used "Sormas".
