Perleberg (dpa / bb) - Brandenburg's SPD General Secretary Erik Stohn wants to give up his office before the next party congress.

He will report to the SPD party executive on Monday, said Stohn, who is also chairman of the SPD parliamentary group, to “Prignitzer” and “Uckermarkkurier” (Saturday edition).

The handover of the baton to David Kolesny from Potsdam should be initiated, said Stohn on request.

After the summer break he had already announced that he would not run again as Secretary General in order to separate the post from that of the group chairman.

Because of Corona, the party congress was canceled and he was still general secretary.

Without Corona, Kolesnyk might already have been elected by the party congress.

Now the Bundestag election campaign begins, in which the differences between the political competitors should be made clear, he said.

"I think it is wise to plan and take responsibility for the election campaign from a single source," said Stohn.

Now the state executive would have to co-opt Kolesnyk so that he could take on the task now.

"I would have found it nicer to be able to hand over at a party congress," said Stohn.

As chairman of the parliamentary group, he remains an advisory member of the state executive, said Stohn.
