Kiel / Flensburg (dpa / lno) - Two games, two wins, two satisfied coaches: the top handball players from Northern Germany have successfully started the second phase of the Champions League.

"That was a good start into 2021, which will hold many challenges in store for us," said coach Filip Jicha after the 34:23 home win against HC Motor Zaporozhye from Ukraine on Thursday evening.

Jicha's trainer colleague Maik Machulla was also happy.

"Those are two points that we can be proud of," said the coach of SG Flensburg-Handewitt after the 28:26 at HC Brest in Belarus.

Just four days after the final of the World Cup in Egypt, the two Bundesliga top clubs had to compete in the premier class again.

Jicha was able to spare his two Danish world champions Niklas and Magnus Landin as well as the ailing Norwegian Sander Sagosen, Machulla was also happy about the comeback of Lasse Möller: "He showed that he can be very important for us in the second half of the season," said the SG -Coach on the Dane who was absent for four months due to a hand injury.

In the table of group A, Flensburg has taken the lead in front of the Polish club Vive Kielce.

The Kielers remain fifth in Group B, but have the best chance of reaching the knockout phase.

Things continue differently for the two clubs on the weekend: While the THW receives the SC DHfK Leipzig for the Bundesliga home game on Sunday (1.30 p.m. / Sky), the SG has a day off: "We will use the weekend for regeneration," announced Machulla .
