Cologne (dpa / lnw) - An unannounced gathering of opponents of the Corona measures caused a large-scale police operation at the Cologne Justice Center on Friday.

The around 40 participants did not adhere to the distance rules and most did not wear protective masks, said a police spokeswoman.

The police initiated administrative offense proceedings and disbanded the meeting.

The demonstration was in connection with a trial started at the same time against two women who are accused in the local court of violating the assembly law.

The trial broke off on Friday because the defendants' defense lawyers refused to wear mouth and nose protection despite the judge's obligation to wear a mask.

The judge then postponed the hearing to protect against infection.

"No administrative measures can be imposed on lawyers," explained a court spokeswoman on request.

The judge could order a mask requirement for lawyers, but not enforce it against their will.
