Osnabrück (dpa / lnw) - Lower Saxony's Minister of Economic Affairs Bernd Althusmann (CDU) hardly expects the corona restrictions to be relaxed for the time being.

"I'm afraid that there can be hardly any easing at first, because even our numbers in Lower Saxony do not yet reveal that," he told the "Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung" (Friday).

He was particularly concerned about mutated variants of the corona virus.

"If we don't get the mutated virus under control now, we can always expect to suffer setbacks," he said.

As long as the seven-day incidence - the number of infections per 100,000 inhabitants in one week - does not fall below 25, one has to be very careful.

166 cases of coronavirus mutations have now been detected in Lower Saxony.

According to information from the State Health Office, 97 cases were about the British and one case about the South African variant.

In 68 cases the variants could not be identified in more detail.
