The Swedish IS woman took two children home to Sweden, one of whom is said to have been born in the meantime in Syria, when she returned in December.

She is now being investigated for forced marriage and war crimes and the children have been taken into care.

Through his work, social worker Bettan Byvald has come into contact with several returnees who have been linked to IS.

She has not met the specific woman and her children, but reacts strongly to the pictures that show the family's life with IS in Syria.

- It is terrible to see these pictures of the children and how left out and exposed they are in this terrorist organization, she says in Aktuellt.

Easier the younger the children are

In order for the children to be re-adapted to Swedish society, they need a lot of support from the Social Services, she says.

- It will take time and be painful.

They need to meet good adults where they can try the values and horrors that they have been through and come in a favorable environment so that they can slowly but surely come back to life again, says Bettan Byvald.

In her work as a social worker, she has met many children in similar situations and believes that rehabilitation goes faster the younger they are and the shorter time they have been in IS-controlled areas.

- It will be a struggle for the slightly older children, she says.
