Kiel (dpa / lno) - According to the Barmer health insurance company, sick leave due to flu has more than halved in the corona pandemic.

Accordingly, the number of people suffering from influenza from Schleswig-Holstein fell by an average of 61 percent between November and Christmas 2020 compared to the same period in the two previous years, as Barmer reported on Thursday.

"The flu has played a very minor role at the beginning of this year," commented the state manager Bernd Hillebrandt.

"The distance and hygiene rules for protection against corona obviously also reduce the risk of influenza."

Nevertheless, the flu vaccination remains a very important protection against influenza.

Since their season could drag on into April or May, immunization is still useful now, said Hillebrandt.
