Bremen (dpa) - The Kunsthalle Bremen was looking for “hairy stories” in the run-up to a planned Picasso exhibition.

The museum asked for photos of body hair and the stories that go with it - more than 1000 photos were submitted by the end of January, as the initiator of the campaign, Jasmin Mickein, said.

A selection will later be shown in the museum.

With the campaign, the house wants to question ideals of beauty.

"In art it becomes clear that the way you handle hair was very different," says museum spokeswoman Mickein.

This shows that there is no norm.

"How hair is handled depends on the era."

The Spanish painter Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) painted armpit and pubic hair.

"Picasso is known for his erotic depictions," said Mickein.

"Back then it was not customary to shave certain parts of the body."
