The new home office rules in the corona pandemic do not apply to trial operations in theaters.

North Rhine-Westphalia's minister of culture Isabel Pfeiffer-Poensgen (independent) pointed this out on Thursday in the state parliament's culture committee.

The federal government's new corona occupational health and safety ordinance has led to some irritation.

As a result, theater rehearsals were suspended in some cities for the duration of the regulation.

"There is absolutely no reason for that," emphasized the minister.

The Corona Protection Ordinance of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, which expressly allows rehearsals, continues to apply.

"Well, you can rehearse according to the strict requirements of the employers' liability insurance association," said Pfeiffer-Poensgen.

The federal home office regulation is limited to March 15.

The minister hopes that the theaters will be able to play normally again next year.

But this year 2021 will “still not be a safe year”.

A big problem is also to regain the trust of the often older audience in the theaters' security against infections.

At the end of February, she expects a technical report on how the theaters could be made safer.
