Berlin (dpa) - The number of pension applications for particularly long-term insured persons over 63 has increased again slightly.

In the past year there were around 260,000 applications for old-age pensions from 63, as a spokesman for the German pension insurance of the German press agency said in Berlin.

Around 257,000 applications were submitted in 2019.

When it was introduced in 2014, the government had only forecast around 200,000 applicants per year.

But since the pension from 63 came into force, the number of applications has now risen to around 1.7 million.

Insured persons who have completed at least 45 years of insurance in the statutory pension insurance can claim this old-age pension from the age of 63 without any deductions.
