Mainz (dpa / lrs) - The flood situation in Rhineland-Palatinate is still tense.

The water levels on the Upper Rhine remain at a high level, announced the flood reporting center (HMZ) in Mainz.

The Upper Rhine near Mainz reached a level of 6.15 meters on Thursday morning - and the trend is rising.

The situation should only ease towards the end of the week.

In the Middle Rhine, the water levels continued to rise on Thursday morning, in Koblenz the HMZ reported a level of 6.91 meters.

For the Moselle, experts from the flood reporting service continued to see rising water levels in Trier on Wednesday.

"We are currently assuming that the highest level will be reached on Thursday with values ​​between 8.30 meters and 8.90 meters," said a spokesman.

Meanwhile, the rainy weather in Rhineland-Palatinate takes a short break on Thursday.

At temperatures between 6 degrees in the Hocheifel and up to 13 degrees it will be cloudy and mostly dry, according to the German Weather Service (DWD).

On Friday, however, rain pulls over the region again.

According to the forecast, there can be heavy rainfall, especially on Saturday night.
