Zörbig (dpa) - At the biofuel manufacturer Verbio, business is flourishing even in the Corona crisis.

In the first half of the fiscal year, which ran until the end of December, sales climbed by almost ten percent to EUR 479.1 million compared to the previous year, as the SDax-listed company from Zörbig in Saxony-Anhalt announced on Wednesday.

The operating result before taxes, interest, depreciation and amortization (Ebitda) was 80.4 million euros after the first six months, almost 50 percent more than a year ago.

Verbio benefited from increased profit margins in bioethanol and biodiesel.

The production facilities in both segments, including biomethane production, were very well utilized, it said.

The bottom line was the profit increased to 44.2 million euros, a year earlier the company had reported 25.3 million euros.

Verbio, which currently has around 700 employees, was included in the SDax small-cap index last December.

In addition to biofuels such as biodiesel, biogas and bioethanol, the company also produces products such as liquid fertilizers and disinfectants.
