Wiesbaden (dpa / lhe) - Threats and crimes against local politicians will be recorded and bundled in a more targeted manner in Hessen.

Since the beginning of this year, the Hessian police headquarters have been reporting to the State Criminal Police Office (LKA) all relevant crimes against local politicians in the state, said Interior Minister Peter Beuth (CDU) in response to a small request from the AfD parliamentary group in Wiesbaden.

The aim is to get a faster and more specific database for these acts.

According to the Interior Minister, the term “local politician” has not been specifically used in the recording of politically motivated crime by the LKA's criminal police reporting service.

These crimes were included in the thematic areas of attacks against politicians, officials and elected officials as well as party members and party representatives.

Insults and attacks on elected officials have been increasing in Hesse for several months.

After the conviction of the murderer of the Kassel District President Walter Lübcke (CDU), the federal government's commissioner for victims warned that local politicians in particular must be protected much better than before.

Edgar Franke explained that threats had become almost everyday occurrence for many who were politically active.
