On the third day of hearing in the Tony trial, the personalities of the mother and stepfather of the little boy who was beaten by the latter in November 2016 were scrutinized.

A day which made it possible to highlight an immature couple, between an erased mother and a "manipulator" who "can break everything in an instant".

On the third day of the Tony case trial at the Assizes in Reims, this little boy of three and a half killed in November 2016 under the blows of his stepfather, the hearing was devoted to the personality of the latter, as well than that of the victim's mother.

A day which made it possible to draw the portrait of an immature and unbalanced couple.

A self-effacing mother and "a manipulator" ...

There is on the one hand Caroline Letoile, 19 years old at the time of the events, a self-effacing mother, reserved, unable to live alone and who "endures her journey, her encounters", according to the personality investigator who interviewed her.

Little Tony's mother says she was raped by her brother-in-law but dissuaded from filing a complaint by her mother.

On the other, there is a violent young man who multiplies the conquests.

Two ex-girlfriends of Loïc Vantal described him at court as "a manipulator", "a monster".

"Vantal is not a good man. He can break everything in a single instant. When he drinks he is very violent, impulsive. You shouldn't stand up to him. He's a monster", launches Tiffanie Hureaux, mother. of his daughter.

"He is manipulative, violent, nasty (...) I do not see a single quality in him", she slices.

“Aside from being funny from time to time, I don't see,” adds another ex-girlfriend, Naomi Lawson, 25, describing him as a “violent” man who “doesn't know how to manage his emotions”.

In his memory, the man "consumed a lot and regularly of alcohol" and "smoked a lot of cannabis".

"He was getting boring. He got angry easily."

... who saw little Tony as a "rival"

Without a job or training, Loïc Vantal saw Tony as a "nuisance" in his relationship with Caroline Letoile, but also a "rival", according to the psychiatrist who appraised him.

A rival that perhaps had to be got rid of.

He also told the personality investigator that he had agreed with the mother, before Tony's death, to entrust custody of the little boy to his father and have another child together. 

Tony's stepfather is being sued for willful violence resulting in death and faces 30 years in prison.

For not having denounced him and for having warned the emergency services too late, the mother of the little boy risks 5 years in prison.
