Erfurt (dpa / th) - Thuringia is not losing its status as the state most severely affected by the corona pandemic - despite a downward trend in new infections.

With 148 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the past seven days, Thuringia was ahead of Saxony-Anhalt on Wednesday (127), as the Ministry of Health announced.

That corresponds to 3177 cases in this period.

From Tuesday to Wednesday, 539 new cases of infection and 30 more deaths in connection with a corona infection were reported.

Since the pandemic began almost a year ago, 66,335 people have been infected with the Sars-CoV2 virus, and 2,259 people have died.

The number of those who have recovered is estimated at 56,610.

The situation is quite different among the districts.

While, according to the ministry, the districts of Schmalkalden-Meiningen (256.2), Hildburghausen (254.8) and Gotha (230.5) are among the ten most extreme corona hotspots in the districts, the seven-day incidence in the Nordhausen district is approaching with around 55 the value of 50. Eisenach (around 59), Gera (around 80) and Weimar (92) were below the threshold of 100 on Wednesday.

56,774 people have now received their first corona vaccination, that is 2.7 percent of the population.

13 156 people were vaccinated for the second time.

Another 15 vaccination centers should go into operation on Wednesday afternoon.
