Liverpool returned to its disappointing results in the Premier League football championship, and its hopes of retaining the Premier League title received a new painful blow, after its sudden loss 0-1 at home to Brighton on Wednesday in the 22nd round.

Liverpool stuck at 40 points in fourth place, 7 points behind leaders Manchester City, who still has a postponed match, before their upcoming meeting next Sunday in the next stage of the tournament at Anfield, the Reds stronghold.

On the other hand, the balance of Brighton - who scored his third victory in his last four matches in the championship - rose to 24 points in 15th place.

And after he gave hope to his fans to continue competing for the Premier League title, after defeating hosts Tottenham and West Ham, who came after 5 matches during which he could not win;

Liverpool sent a new shock to his fans by losing to Brighton, who could have won more goals had it not been for the brilliance of Irish goalkeeper Kaimheen Kelleher, who blocked more than one shot by the visitors.

Stephen Alzate assumed the lead in the match, scoring Brighton's only goal in the 56th minute.

This is the second consecutive loss that Liverpool have received at home in the League Championship, after losing to Burnley by the same score, in their last meeting at Anfield about two weeks ago.

The last victory for Liverpool at home in the league championship was dated January 16, when they beat Tottenham 2-1 at home.
