Mainz (dpa / lrs) - After the nationwide «vaccination summit», the state government in Mainz is also planning a top meeting on further vaccinations in Rhineland-Palatinate.

Prime Minister Malu Dreyer (SPD) informed the state parliament's council of elders on Wednesday about the “vaccination summit” on Monday and said that there would be joint consultations with municipalities, vaccination coordinators and the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians as soon as it was clear from March what vaccine delivery quantities in the second Quarter can be calculated.

In this round, the major logistical challenges with the expected sharp increase in vaccinations from April should be discussed.

Dreyer reported to the members of the council of elders that Biontech and other vaccine manufacturers could only deliver what they produced from the consultations at the «vaccination summit».

"Nobody produces in stock, it is produced and delivered."

Biontech had made it clear that the procurement of raw materials for vaccine production was problematic.

Here the Federal Ministry of Economics and the EU are considering how the procurement of raw materials can be accelerated.

"Our goal is that by the end of February 200,000 people have received the first and 140,000 the second vaccination," said Dreyer.

"Everyone who received a first vaccination will also receive the second."

In Rhineland-Palatinate there are a total of around 400,000 people in the first group of prioritization based on special professional tasks or age, including 200,000 seniors over 80. By Tuesday around 143,000 people had received the first and 23,500 the second vaccination.

"The vaccine train is rolling in Rhineland-Palatinate," said Dreyer, "even if it was unable to start a new journey due to the shortage of deliveries".

So far, 3.5 percent of people in Rhineland-Palatinate have received their first vaccination against the coronavirus.

This makes the state one of the front runners in Germany.

The national average is 2.4 percent.
