Neckarwestheim (dpa / lsw) - In the meantime, radioactive water has leaked in the Neckarwestheim nuclear power plant (Heilbronn district).

As the environment ministry announced on Wednesday, neither people nor the environment were affected.

According to international criteria, this is a reportable incident with little safety-related significance.

The leak was discovered in a separate room during a routine tour last week.

There were residues on the housing cover of a fitting and on the floor.

The affected section processes radioactive wastewater and is not part of the safety system of the nuclear power plant.

The valve was replaced.

The cause should be investigated.

The affected room was very slightly contaminated.

Block II in Neckarwestheim is the last nuclear reactor in Baden-Württemberg to still produce electricity.

It should be switched off by the end of 2022 at the latest.
