Mülheim-Kärlich (dpa / lrs) - A man is said to have seriously injured his partner in Mülheim-Kärlich (Mayen-Koblenz district) with a knife attack.

After the attack, the 65-year-old man injured himself with the stabbing weapon, the police said on Wednesday.

According to initial investigations, he is said to have waited in the shared apartment for the 62-year-old woman to first kill her and then himself.

After the attack, the woman was able to flee the apartment, seriously injured, and the partner injured himself.

When the police officers alerted by witnesses arrived, the alleged attacker was still holding a knife.

During the arrest, the officers used a taser.

The police found severe cuts on the man's stomach.

Like the woman, he too had to be taken to a clinic.

The man is being investigated for dangerous bodily harm.
