Paderborn (AP) - Jochen Drees has defended the behavior of referee Tobias Stieler (Hamburg) in the cup game between Borussia Dortmund and SC Paderborn (3: 2 nV).

In the opinion of the project manager for the video assistant at the DFB, the criticism of Paderborn coach Steffen Baumgart is exaggerated, according to which the referee behaved disrespectfully when reviewing the controversial winning goal from BVB attacker Erling Haaland (95th).

Accordingly, the referee's walk to the TV screen on the sidelines is "not a question of respect".

“An on-field review (OFR) only makes sense if the video assistant can provide the referee with visual evidence that clearly refutes the perception on the field.

But that wasn't possible in the scene last night, ”said Drees.

Following the game, Baumgart had expressed himself critical of the performance of the referee team around Stieler (Hamburg) in a television interview.

He had complained about the referee's unwillingness to personally watch the BVB winning goal checked in the Cologne video cellar on a monitor on the sidelines.

According to the coach, none of his players - contrary to Stieler's perception - had touched the ball beforehand and thus canceled the offside position of the Norwegian.
