Osnabrück (dpa / lni) - The corona mutation B.1.1.7 discovered in Great Britain has now also been detected in the Osnabrück region.

The district of Osnabrück announced on Wednesday evening that a 41-year-old woman from Osnabrück and a 40-year-old man from Melle were affected.

With them must be assumed with a "high probability" of an infection.

In the case of the man, the infection probably happened in the workplace, in the case of the woman it was still unclear.

In both cases, the number of contacts is low.

According to a report by the news portal of the Münsterländische Tageszeitung and the Oldenburgische Volkszeitung “Om online”, according to information from the district, two other cases were also detected in the Vechta district.

The virus variant B.1.1.7, which has so far mainly appeared in Great Britain, is, according to experts, easier to transmit than the previous one.

It is not yet possible to say for sure whether it is also more deadly.

The first case in Lower Saxony became public at the end of December.

In contrast to neighboring Bremen, Lower Saxony is not planning any nationwide tests for variant B.1.1.7 of the corona virus.
