Rapid tests for everyone - that's what Health Minister Jens Spahn has promised.

Soon everyone should be able to buy them legally and use them to test whether they or friends and acquaintances carry the corona virus.

And because the previously usual deep nasal and throat swabs are supposed to be too complicated for laypeople, Spahn relies on better gargle and saliva tests.

“It's not a good idea,” says Claudia Denkinger, infection medicine specialist at Heidelberg University Hospital. She is one of the internationally known experts for corona rapid tests, supervises projects for the international organization "Find", which advocates good and easy-to-use rapid tests for infectious diseases. "Many problems can be expected with saliva or gargle water."
