Kordel (dpa / lrs) - After a road collapses due to a landslide near Kordel north of Trier, the rescue work continues.

In order to pull the slipped truck out of the mud, a ramp should now be built, said the Trier-Land defense officer, Jürgen Cordie, on Tuesday.

A heavy crane could not approach the spot because there was a risk that the ground would continue to sag.

On Monday, after rain, a road between Kordel (Trier-Saarburg district) and the Hochmark district collapsed over a length of around ten meters and about four meters deep.

A car and an unloaded timber truck, which were driving on the narrow road at the time, slid into the crater on the steep slope.

The drivers (18 and 59) came to hospitals, some seriously injured.

To build the ramp, the road in front of the demolition site will be excavated over around 15 meters.

"The driveway is sloping," said Cordie.

He assumed that the recovery would take the entire week.

In order to supply the 40 or so residents of the Hochmark district, who are now virtually cut off, a forest path will be prepared, said Cordie.

The way is also used by the fire brigade.

The K29 is closed until further notice, said the State Office for Mobility (LBM) Rhineland-Palatinate in Koblenz.

The fire chief assumed that it could take up to six months before the road could be used again.

A retaining wall may have to be built.

"It needs support again."

And the gap in the street will become even larger with the construction of the ramp.

"It boils down to a complex renovation," said the LBM.

First a concept has to be worked out.

The idea of a previously planned temporary bridge at the accident site had been rejected again.

The access to the delivery of the necessary material is not possible.

"Too tight," said Cordie.
