Berlin / Potsdam (dpa) - The federal police found several hundred violations of the stricter corona entry rules within a few days.

Specifically, the restrictions concern flights from areas with particularly high incidences, i.e. infection rates, as well as areas in which a possibly more contagious new variant of the corona virus is circulating.

In contrast to risk areas with slightly lower infection rates, a corona test after entry is not sufficient here.

Between January 24 and February 1, 940 violations of the applicable rules were found in 240 flights from foreign high-risk and virus variant areas, the federal police announced on Tuesday in Potsdam.

According to the information, 276 passengers arrived from areas with particularly high numbers of infections who could not show correct entry registration.

In a further 373 cases, people from this group did not have the necessary current negative corona test.

In the case of the flight connections from the so-called virus variant areas, 133 passengers came without digital registration or written replacement notification.

In 150 cases there was no evidence of a negative test result that was not more than 48 hours old.

For the virus variant areas, a transport ban with narrowly defined exceptions has also applied since last Saturday.

Since then, airlines have in principle only been allowed to bring German citizens or foreigners who have their place of residence in Germany to Germany.

So far, the federal police have found eight violations of the new protection ordinance, for example because of the transport of passengers who are not resident in Germany.

"Yesterday alone, aviation companies transported ten people from virus variant areas and a further 28 from high-incidence areas to Germany without a valid negative corona test - this potential risk is avoidable," said Federal Police President Dieter Romann.

The aviation industry is also implementing the latest transport ban, stressed the general manager of the Federal Association of the German Aviation Industry, Matthias von Randow.

However, this new regulation was communicated to companies that would have had to change their check-in processes accordingly with just a few hours' notice.

He added: "Wherever there have been violations by passengers in a few individual cases, it is of course our aim to work with the authorities to quickly reduce the number of these violations to zero."

The current coronavirus entry regulation came into force on January 14th.

Last Friday, the federal cabinet had also decided to ban the transport of areas in which new variants of the virus had appeared.

This includes Portugal.

The federal police announced that the measures at the internal borders as well as at the seaports and airports were further intensified in close coordination with the federal states.

At the German-Czech border, the density of controls below the threshold of temporarily reintroduced border controls has been increased.
