Magdeburg (dpa / sa) - Saxony-Anhalt's Minister of Social Affairs, Petra Grimm-Benne, is against the federal government's proposal to open and close daycare centers depending on the corona infection.

"The proposed traffic light model is too small and unsuitable for an area," said the SPD politician of the German press agency.

Nevertheless, she will not shut herself off from a discussion about common criteria for daycare operations.

The aim is to set nationwide uniform limit values from which daycare centers could switch from emergency operation to restricted and finally to regular operation.

In Saxony-Anhalt, both daycare centers and schools have been in emergency operation since mid-December.

Only children of parents who work in systemically relevant professions are looked after in the day-care centers.

This is part of particularly strict measures to finally stop the spread of the coronavirus and drastically reduce the number of new infections.

In fact, the number of cases in Saxony-Anhalt is now falling.

According to the Robert Koch Institute, it is still the second most polluted state.

It is currently agreed that the lockdown will last until at least February 14th.

Whether the restrictions will be retained or there will be the first easing is a topic of the cabinet meeting on Tuesday in Magdeburg.

The federal and state governments had already discussed the further vaccination strategy as well as daycare operations on Monday.

Federal Minister for Family Affairs Franziska Giffey (SPD) promoted the so-called daycare traffic light in a round with her counterparts from the federal states, there was no decision on the concept.

According to Giffey's proposal, facilities could open without restrictions until there is at least one confirmed case of staff or children.

If more than a quarter of the employees or two supervised groups are in quarantine, emergency operation applies.
