Dresden (AP) - The volleyball players of the Dresdner SC have won the explosive East Derby against VfB Suhl after a hard-fought and at times high-class game.

With the 3: 1 (23:25, 25:14, 25:22, 25:23), coach Alexander Waibl's protégés achieved their ninth win in a row on Tuesday and ousted the Stuttgart women with the same points from the top of the Bundesliga table thanks to the better set ratio .

Both teams exchanged blows at eye level from the start.

They served powerfully, acted aggressively in attack and fought for every ball in defense. In the final phase of the first set, the Suhlers had the better end for themselves.

In the second round, a series of serve by DSC captain Lena Stigrot ensured a preliminary decision early on, while the Thuringian women completely broke the game.

In the third section, however, they stabilized again, and again a duel developed at eye level with many long rallies.

In the end, Stigrot got the decisive points to win the set.

The VfB women defended themselves in the fourth section as well, fighting self-sacrificingly for every ball. But in the decisive final phase, the DSC had more power in attack.

The most valuable players at Suhl were Danielle Harbin and at Dresden Lena Stigrot.
