The Hague / Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The "Invictus Games" initiated by Prince Harry for war veterans, which were actually planned for 2020 in The Hague, have been postponed again.

It is still unclear what effects this will have on the subsequent competition in Düsseldorf.

Because of the corona pandemic, the "Invictus Games" in The Hague could not be opened on the replacement date at the end of May this year, the "Invictus Foundation" announced on Tuesday in The Hague and London.

The Paralympic competitions are now to be held in spring 2022.

The organizers did not provide any information about the possible consequences for the planning for Düsseldorf.

The following “Invictus Games” were originally supposed to take place there in 2022.

After the first change of date for The Hague, they had also been postponed by a year so that the competitions remained in the usual two-year cycle.

The "Invictus Games" are broadcast worldwide.

So far, Prince Harry has personally attended all the games.

Düsseldorf had prevailed against the Canadian Victoria in the application process.

The organizer of the Games in The Hague, Wouter Bakker, said that the renewed postponement was no surprise given the Corona situation.

"A digital version or an event without spectators would not feel like Invictus Games to me and would not do justice to the spirit of these games."

Therefore, the renewed postponement is the best decision.
