Eschweiler (dpa / lnw) - Several light earthquakes were registered in Eschweiler near Aachen on Monday.

The first two tremors occurred around seven o'clock with a magnitude of 0.4 and 1.1, followed by another after ten o'clock with a magnitude of 1.4, as reported by the state earthquake service on its website.

According to the measurements, they happened at a depth between 5.5 and 8.5 kilometers.

Quakes of this magnitude are not unusual, said Klaus Lehmann, head of the state earthquake service.

No news was received that the quake could be felt.

"The Aachener Nachrichten" had previously reported.

In January the earth shook several times in the south of Aachen.

The strongest shock at that time was 2.8.

The Lower Rhine Bay is one of the most active earthquake areas in Central Europe.
