Berlin (dpa) - Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) has warned of excessive expectations of the corona vaccination speed in the coming weeks.

This time will be a real challenge for the patience of the people, said Söder on Monday after a “vaccination summit” by the federal and state governments, in which representatives of the pharmaceutical industry and the EU Commission also took part.

According to the current status, there will be no more vaccine in the first quarter.

But now you have to try to make the best of it.

Söder reported from the talks at the «vaccination summit» that «precise planning» is difficult from the point of view of the company.

Too many variables are involved, such as what concerns production.

That's why you can't do the whole thing with a time clock or stopwatch.

He therefore warned against raising hopes that could not be fulfilled.

The companies could make promises, but not give one hundred percent guarantees, said the CSU boss.

Söder praised the fact that Merkel had made vaccination a “top priority”, also with regard to the European Union.

But this was meant as recognition, he emphasized when asked, and “no different”.
