Gelsenkirchen (AP) - FC Schalke has tied talent Matthew Hoppe to itself for two years.
As the bottom of the Bundesliga table announced on Monday, the 19-year-old American signed a professional contract until 2023. "Matthew Hoppe took his chance and showed that he has the potential to establish himself permanently in the Bundesliga," commented sports director Jochen Schneider reached an agreement with the attacker.
Hoppe moved from the Barca Academy in the USA to the Revierclub in the summer of 2019.
In the current season he initially ran for the U23 and scored once in 16 regional league games.
He scored five goals in nine games in the Bundesliga.
Most recently, Hoppe started six times in a row.
«The last few weeks have been like a dream.
I am extremely grateful to everyone in charge at Schalke 04 for giving me this chance.
Now I want to help that we will soon be playing successful football again, ”said Hoppe.
