Berlin (dpa / bb) - Berlin's Governing Mayor Michael Müller has shown himself satisfied with the results of the “vaccination summit” on Monday.

The now agreed national vaccination plan against Corona is very important for states and municipalities, said the SPD politician on Monday after the deliberations of the federal government, states, manufacturers and EU representatives.

They needed more reliability and clarity about what could be vaccinated when and in what quantities, so that they could prepare for it in good time, in terms of space, staff and their invitation system.

This applies all the more, the larger the scope of the deliveries becomes.

"It is a very important step that we are now turning to this more specifically," said the current chairman of the conference of prime ministers.

"To have 100,000 doses of vaccine more or less is nothing abstract," said Müller.

“100,000 doses of vaccine more or less means more safety and better health protection for 50,000 people.

And that's what it's about. "

At the meeting on Monday, it was important to him and the countries to convey the "one on one".

"I think this message has arrived in all clarity," said Müller.

"You have to honestly say, as of today: It will remain tight in the first quarter," he added, referring to the available vaccine.

The expectations of the people could not yet be met 100 percent here because the production - that became clear in the round on Monday - could not be expanded at will.

From the second quarter onwards, so much vaccine will be available that it will progress “in great strides”, Müller was convinced.

It is regrettable that the corona vaccine is so scarce in the first quarter.

Nevertheless: "It is a stroke of luck that we have these vaccines available at all."

And it is still “spectacular” that this has been achieved in an international effort.

"There remain tense weeks ahead of us, but we will also have relaxed weeks ahead of us."

Müller was confident that the organization of the corona vaccinations in Berlin would work well even with a sharp increase in vaccination numbers.

The capacities are there.

And the Berlin process, which is invited by letter, is met with approval from the population.

"It works on site."

Müller: "My impression is that people also accept, in the context of a global crisis, a pandemic, even if it sometimes takes a few days to get an appointment."

There is only great displeasure if deadlines are not met.

After the “vaccination summit”, Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) reaffirmed the goal of offering all German citizens a vaccination offer by the end of summer on September 21.

After massive anger about organizational problems, the federal and state governments want to coordinate more closely on the delivery quantities that can be expected gradually.

In future, they want to model certain assumptions in a “national vaccination plan” in order to be able to better estimate vaccine quantities in advance.
